Issue Fourteen: To The Letter
We're coming up on the first birthday of Casual Archivist in a few weeks! I've been reflecting a bit on what year two for this newsletter could look like, and have realized that while I love providing context and commentary on the archival collections I share here, sometimes I find a set of items that speaks for itself—so from now on, expect a wider mix of collection types, with and without longer-form accompanying essays. Today is my first pass at this new "mostly images" model, so I'd love to hear what you think and if you miss my elucidations. As always, thank you for being here!

Today's collection is a series of mostly early 20th Century alphabet specimens, saved unceremoniously to my desktop over the last few yearsYou can find these all over the place if you keep an eye out, but as always, Flickr is king

This issue's featured archive is the Korean American Digital Archive at USC, a collection of over 15,000 documents, photographs, and audio clips touching on the Korean experience in America from 1903 to 1965. This archive, and many others like ithighlight the long-standing presence and everyday lives of Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders in the US—lives unfortunately marred too often by racism and the far-reaching legacy of Western imperialism.

Casual Archivist stands in solidarity with all AAPI experiencing increased bigoted violence, and will be matching donations up to $500 to any organizations working to fight anti-Asian hate or to provide necessary resources to affected communities. You can find a range of institutions and individuals in need of donations hereand can reply to this email with any receipts to be matched.

Want to try hunting yourself? The Casual Archivist database and archive resource list here has some great places to start.
